NEWARK. IT’S TIME TO MAKE DANCING LEGAL.

IN 2016, THE CITY OF NEWARK BANNED “LIVE NIGHT CLUB OR FLOOR SHOW TYPE THAT ENCOURAGES DANCING WITHIN AN ESTABLISHMENT”.

Newark, its time to change this. As consumers, residents, and dancers we should have the right to choose where we spend our time and money. We should not be limited to only 2 establishments that are grandfathered in (Klondike Kate’s & The Deerpark Tavern). Not only does Dance Newark view this as a violation of our 1st Amendment rights, but we also see this is as a blatant lack of care for the city’s residents’ mental health. In a recently published paper, Australian professors and students found the act of dancing to be more effective at fighting depression than SSRIs (Anti-Depressants).

KEEP THE GOVERNMENT OFF OF OUR DANCE FLOORS

CALL THE MAYOR: 302-366-7000

COME TO CITY COUNCIL MEETINGS: EVERY SECOND,THIRD,FOURTH MONDAY OF THE MONTH 220 S MAIN ST, NEWARK DE, 19711

DON’T TREAD ON DANCING.

End the city’s tyranny. While this law is not only detrimental to the residents of Newark, it is also detrimental to the businesses. Residents who seek proper dancing infrastructure are pushed to places such as Philadelphia or Wilmington. If the city of Newark really cared about its businesses and residents, it would end its draconian laws regarding having fun. Shame on you, city of Newark. Undemocratic. Fascist. Anti-American. We call on the entire city council and the mayor to resign immediately.

Here is a quote from the UD Review from a council member at the time of passing: “We joke that the rules are like the movie ‘Footloose,’” she said. “But we do enforce the rule.”

PRESS, BUSINESSES, AND QUESTIONS.

We would love to connect with any business or media organization who shares our concern for the lack of danceable terrain in the City of Newark, DE.

IF I DIE, THEN LET MY GRAVESTONE READ: ‘REST IN P-FUNK’, CAUSE NO PULSE IS NO EXCUSE NOT TO DANCE.
